強光點在照片上呈現出 " Sun Star",No. of points for that Sun-Star is determined by how many number of aperature blades.
Although the term is named as "Sun-Satr", we typically observed them at Night Scene as any point light source in dark scene (night scene) will turn itslef apparently into a Strong Light sources.

For easy reference:
三角星: NA
四角星: ? or Art Filter

Rollei 135 形的鏡頭有很多是3片光圈頁,
Hasselblad-Zeiss

(Quality is tact sharp for both) Sun-Satr appears as 8 point Star for 35f1.4 and 6 point satr for PC-Distagon 35 f2.6.
Just because I don't like such artistic look/feel, I would rather use the Leica PC 28 - 5 blades (in fact it is a Schneider lens) or Hasselblad-Zeiss Lens for Night Shots. It will give you a more appealing 10 point star for those point light souces (it is NOT art filter).
For similar reason, for night shots gradually I switched to use more lens from Schneider or Rodenstock (as they typically deploys Copal or Compur Shutter that usually comes with 5 or 7 aperature blade).

It is much regretted that the optic-gems from Leica (R series not the M series) is typically come with 6 aperature blades........

I also like Nikon... as its lens typically opt for "7 aperature blades" or other ODD number aperature Blades.

Pentax (manual)- typically 6 Aperature Blades
Olympus (manual) - typically 6 aperature baldes

Hi Ching,

Thanks for your sharing!
FYI,  Pentax actually starts very early to have "odd number aperture blades.  From their film manual age, they have the limited lens with 9 blades such as 31F1.8 and 77F1.8.  And going into the digital age, their DA* lens seems starting to crazy about blades, begin to all have 9 blades.  And the DA*55F1.4 even have 9 round blades.  So I do agree that maybe round blades will be the future~
Personally I tried the modern DA* lens with 9 blades.  The stars do shows somewhat different than its normal 6 blades lens.  As i'm in office now, i will post some photos when i back home later~ (hope that i will not get too drunk tonight)

Hi, Believe it or NOT, or just verify it yourself ... there should be 六角星: 三片或六片光圈頁
For Odd number of aperature blades, the number of sun-star is 2X number of blades.
